International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women

This Friday, local law firm Fisher Jones Greenwood is lending its support to the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women’.

In acknowledgement of the plight of vulnerable women living in risk, Fisher Jones Greenwood will be donating 240 packs of sanitary towels (representing one and a half packets per current employee) to the CHESS Homeless Centre in Chelmsford.

According to the World Health Organisation one in three women will experience physical or non-partner sexual violence during their life time.  The situation is worse for women living in poverty or in areas of conflict, and who have no proper shelter, access to regular food or sanitation facilities. Feminine hygiene management is one of the biggest challenges they face. Many Shelters and Drop-in Centres across the UK provide food, shelter and clothing but no sanitary towels.

Paula Fowler, Managing Partner at FJG, commented: “The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women is an extremely important event that we are happy to lend our support to. The aim of the day is to highlight issues that are often hidden and the effect that these issues can have. We hope that by getting involved, we can further raise people’s awareness and bring about change.”

If you would like to contribute to this day, please consider donating towards a pack of sanitary towels. There will be collection points all of the FJG offices on Friday 25 November.  These will be taken to the Colchester Night Shelter.
